“PEACE KA MUNA”: PEACE SUMMIT

In celebration of the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Month, the Rotary Club of Tiger Mandaluyong co-sponsored the “Peace Summit” initiated by Rotary Club of ManPaSan spearheaded by Project Chair PP Sedfrey M. Candelaria held on February 22, 2025, 2:00- 6:00 pm at the Ateneo Professionals Building, Rockwell Complex, Makati City.

The Project was also co-sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Mandaluyong, Mandaluyong Biyaya, Rizal Premier, Pasig Premier and E-Club of San Juan. in coordination with the Institute of Autonomy and Governance, Principles for Peace and the Public International Law and Constitutional Law classes of the Ateneo Law School.

“This year’s Peace Summit entitled, “Peace Ka Muna.” seeks to address the concept of peace on both national and international levels. As the Philippines implements the peace agreement signed with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and, on the other hand, encounters “peace issues” with China on the West Philippine Sea dispute, the Peace Summit aimed to present some fundamental understanding of peace and conflict resolution concepts, processes and principles.

“By introducing these to a wider public in our community, it is hoped that Rotary, as an organization of civic-minded citizens, could contribute to the ideal of pursuing a just and lasting peace in our country and, if possible, in our region.”

It is an imperative exercise to first understand the challenges to peace-building and move on to locate Rotary’s strategic role in following through with the peace process initiatives.

The program started with the presentations by resource persons followed by the testimonials from Rotary Peace Fellows alumni and an open forum.

RCTM was represented by its Irresistible President Joan Marie Tejada, together with Rotarians Jolly Ponciano and Caryl Yca Dante (concurrent Rotaractor). RCTM also sponsored the participation of 7 Rotaractors from the Rotaract Club of Highway Hills.
